Today I made it to my first hot yoga class. I’ve been practicing different types of yoga for many years, but this was a nice change of pace. It has been too long since I’ve been in a studio, and I welcomed the opportunity to get back on a mat.

After moving back to the East Coast, I was concern about finding a new studio. In San Francisco, I really enjoyed taking classes at Yoga Tree, particularly Pete Guinosso’s classes, and the experiences I had during candlelight yoga. I like my practice to have a focus on growth and fitness. I want to come out of a class with questions or ideas that I can think about through the day.

After some good research, I decided to try out Prana Power Yoga in Newton Center. I purchased an unlimited first week of classes for $25, and chose a 75 minute all level class. I didn’t find the class to be particularly challenging, but I did sweat out several buckets. I was expecting the heat to make me faint, but even at such a high temperature I didn’t feel uncomfortable, and I felt energized after class.

I also got a kick out of the fact that today’s teacher Alex looked very much like a Gasol brother. My next step is finding the classes that I really like, and soon buying a new mat (I left my old one in California), and a better yoga towel. I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.
